Statement of Purpose
Warren Kinsman -Treasurer
After graduating from Syracuse University with a B.A. in Liberal Arts, Warren Kinsman spent two years in Turkey as a Peace Corps Volunteer, teaching English as a Foreign Language to Turkish junior and senior high school students. The Peace Corps offered him a job upon completion of his volunteer service, and he came to Washington, DC where over the years he worked as a high school teacher, consultant, astrologer and director of an after school enhancement program for inner city youth. In 2004 he retired and in 2005 moved to San José, Costa Rica.
Kinsman has been active in the astrological community for most of his adult life. For many years he served as Matrix Software's traveling representative, where he exhibited their software at conferences around the country. He helped found the Washington, DC chapter of NCGR, and was later appointed to serve on the NCGR Board as Director of Chapter Affairs, a position he enjoyed for 10 years. In 1999, he resigned hoping NCGR would give opportunities for younger members to serve on the board. This eventually happened, but interestingly for him, these changes resulted in his being asked to return to the Board as Treasurer in 2002.
In the fall of 2006, NCGR was audited by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). When they reported their audit results our financial records were not questioned; however, they said NCGR had evolved beyond the scope of what our IRS tax-exempt status permitted. According to the IRS, if we continued with pursuits that promote astrology as a profession, we would lose our 501 (c) (3) status, since some of our current activities would be more appropriately housed in a 501 (c) (6) trade association.
In 2008, the NCGR Professional Astrologers’ Alliance was incorporated, and Kinsman was asked to serve as Treasurer.
