How to Run an Astrological Business |
|

Here are some rules on how to succeed in an astrological business: 1. Be knowledgeable in your business. This should be obvious but people do not always do this. For example, a friend of mine in the past several years has become very successful in the restaurant business. She opened a restaurant and now has several successful branches. This level of success in the restaurant business is very unusual. Although she had thoroughly studied different recipes and had a clear plan, she also worked in similar restaurants before starting her own. That is very thorough research and preparation that few people take the time to do!

Setting Up a Context For Clients to View the Chart * |
|
Written by Joyce Levine

Setting up a context so that clients know what to expect from a consultation is of primary importance. Few people are familiar with astrology or how it works. Even those who are aware should know the perspective of the astrologer giving the consultation, as perspectives can vary dramatically from one astrologer to another. I start my consultations by letting a client know that his chart reflects a picture of his or her life based on his or her date, time, and place of birth.

The word hybrid is derived from a combination of some Greek and the Latin word, Hybrida, meaning a cross-bred animal combining two similar but very different parts. This is an important word for these times of multifaceted possibilities, virtual technology, and rapidly moving time. One example is that of the ancient hybrid known as Chiron, a highly intelligent being whose animal nature could eat flesh! He grew up in isolation in a cave after having been abandoned by both his mother and father at birth. Growing up in isolation deeply affects someone. The lonely individual is forced to fall back on his own resourcefulness to keep him interested, educated, entertained while struggling to stay alive. Left with only one’s basic instincts and genetic intelligence, there is no limit set as to what they can learn, achieve or even destroy. In addition, others often ignore those who are different, because they are odd, and though the angst of isolation is indescribable, this also provides a rare and unusual opportunity for this highly evolved spirit to express fully their creations and innovations.

I have always found writing to be easy - it flows naturally for me, and I've been doing it for years. So, I made it a part of my astrology business on an occasional basis since the beginning, in the late 1970s. In early 2000 I decided I wanted to make it a greater part of my work. Subsequently, I met two of the editors for Llewellyn Publications, Sharon Leah and Stephanie Clement, at the ASTRO 2000 conference in Denver, where I was speaking. As a result, I was invited to write an article for the Moon Sign Book 2002, which Sharon edits. When the contract for the forecasts of their Sun Sign Book became available in 2001 for the 2003 edition, I was very excited about the possibility of writing it for them. I had for a long time felt that sun sign forecasts were limited in their ability to give people true insight into their experiences of the world, and clearly there is much more depth in personal astrological services. However, as I learned more about solar astrology, which has been widely practiced and respected since the most ancient times, I recognized how powerful a tool it is. I decided to submit an application, as did several other astrologers.
