                               Professional Astrologers Alliance (PAA)
                                                        About PAA

Statement of Purpose

The mission of the Professional Astrologers' Alliance (PAA) is to serve as a trade association to provide astrologers with the highest level of recognition in professional astrology, by providing certification and a diploma that is obtained after passing four levels exams, as set by PAA.

To achieve that, PAA has developed an academic curriculum that pursues the highest standards of learning and knowledge, and encompasses all areas of astrological studies. These high standards raise the status of professionalism inside the astrological community, as well as the status of astrology in the public place. Related to this are matters of high ethical standards in the practice of astrology, as well as any other matters relevant to the professional astrologer.

Standards for Ethical and Professional Practice

PAA certified astrologers are expected to adhere to a code of ethical standards in the practice of astrology, which are based on known general practice in the counseling profession, along with situations that are unique to the practice of astrology.

PAA certified astrologers should be able to demonstrate that the information they provide is based on valid and reliable education and certification program for astrology practitioners.

Education

PAA does not provide actual education and training programs, but supports schools and organizations whose standards meet the academic requirements of PAA. PAA has established an Equivalency program that enables student of other recognized schools to participate and obtain PAA Diploma after meeting certain requirements.

History of the PAA-NCGR (Professional Astrologers Alliance)

In 1979, as a result of a desire to better serve the needs of its members, the National Council for Geocosmic Research (NCGR) developed a four-level certification program and Professional Empowerment Program. As a 501(c) (3), NCGR found it was limited in what it could do to promote astrology as a profession and to promote the interests of its members.  In 2007, the NCGR began taking steps to create the NCGR-Professional Astrologers’ Alliance (PAA), a 501(c) (6) trade association so that it could  continue with pursuits that emphasized the business and professional side of astrological practice.

By setting up a trade association separate and apart from NCGR, PAA would be able to continue administering the certification exams, the Professional Empowerment Program, and other activities which support astrology practitioners without endangering the tax-exempt status of NCGR and its mission to promote astrological inquiry, research, and public awareness. In order to get assistance with chartering a trade association, NCGR contacted a firm in Massachusetts (where NCGR is incorporated) that specializes in non-profit law.

The trade association was incorporated in Boston on May 5, 2008, at 11:57 a.m., with the name "NCGR-Professional Astrologers' Alliance."   The Incorporation Chart is below.
